What is hypnotherapy?

Hypnotherapy is a natural state, that you’ve experienced many times, such as when you are deeply engrossed in a good movie or book, and you become identified with the characters and you can see and think and hear through them. Sometimes maybe you can even taste through them and feel the world as they are feeling it.

Similarly, when I guide you into the hypnotic state, just by listening to the soothing sound of my voice, you relax and become engrossed in your own inner world. As you listen to my words, your mind and body relax, and you become more open to hearing suggestions for the changes you want to make in your life.

The hypnotic state is a profound experience in which you get in touch with inner resources and in the process new pathways are formed in your brain which support real lasting changes to happen in your life.

Is it safe? Will I be “put under” and say or do things that I don’t want to say or do?

Yes, hypnotherapy is very safe. You will not be “put under”. Rather, you will be awake and aware, and you will hear everything I say, unless you space out for a moment or you fall asleep. Sometimes clients do fall asleep, because in our busy modern-day world, many people are chronically tired and so when they sit still listening to a soothing voice, they can drift off. If this happens, I gently guide you back to an awake, present state and help you to re-engage in the experience.

Often I will ask you questions while you are in the hypnotic state so that I stay connected with where you are in the process. You can speak easily in the hypnotic state, and speaking even takes you deeper into relaxation. You will not say or do anything that you don’t want to say or do. You will be aware and you will remember whatever you need to remember from the experience.

How can I get the best results from my hypnotherapy sessions?

The more you can engage in the hypnotic state in a multi-sensory way, the better the results you will experience in your life. This means listening to my words, while becoming engrossed in what you are feeling, seeing, hearing, smelling, and even tasting, and also noticing any thoughts or sensations or images or colors that are arising inside. So you are both relaxing and concentrating on the process, in a natural way.

Typically your conscious thinking mind will quiet down as you relax, and so this whole process unfolds naturally – you don’t have to “try” too hard, because your subconscious mind will do the work in an effortless way as you watch the experience unfold inside. My voice and my presence will enable you to relax into the hypnotic state, and then your subconscious mind will lead you to make the important, necessary discoveries for a process of change to begin unfolding in your life.
